The Dreadmill View

The view from the treadmills on the Disney Cruise ship Wonder from our cruise last Feburary.

Remembering the view is what got me through the 3 mile run to tonight. I would run on the treadmill every day if my view was like that! Instead I am in the basement, with boring walls, and an ancient tv that only gets certain channels. Not good channels at that. No wonder I call it the dread mill.. Boring!

Lollygagging

Lollygagging.

That what I feel like I have done in the past weeks in regards to running. It has been 100+ degrees, Chris has been gone, Addison is out of school, and it's almost impossible to get out there and run.

I haven't been a total slacker though. I have run once doing a 5k outside and the rest of the time I have been on the treadmill doing the 'gorge trail' program. It's some ridiculous circuit of changing inclines and changing speeds for 30 minutes or more. It's wacky, and on the dreaded treadmill, but gets the job done.

Chris is home again and next week is supposed to be cooler so I am hoping to be back outside running. I have a 5k race coming up so regardless I have to get moving!

The Garmin rocks!

My new Garmin rocks! I plugged my watch into my computer and this map of my Chicago run popped up. How cool is that?!

Walt Disney World Half Marathon

Well, it is official. I am now entered to run in the WDW Half Marathon!
We are going to make a family vacation out of it and my In Laws are going as well. Addison got in the spirit and wanted to run too so she is entered into the Mickeys Kids Run. It should be great fun.. Well, for her at least.

The thought of another 13.1 miles after the last awful 13.1 miles doesn't really sound appealing but I am hopeful. After all, I'll be running at the "Happiest Place on Earth" with Minnie ears on so how could that possibly be a bad time?

Running in Chicago

I am in the 'burbs of Chicago this weekend in my annual girls trip and I brought along my running shoes. It was good to get out and run after driving 8 hours and it was good to run somewhere different. The lakes were right near my friend Amandas house and it was such a nice place to run.

Except for the crazy attack Blackbird.

The path was about a mile around with a lot of shaded areas.. and an ice cream stand in case I wanted a cone while running.
My hotel was right on the edge of the lakes so it was nice to walk out the back door and have a great place to run.

I didn't keep track of my time since I stopped to take a couple of photos, petted a cute dog, and took a call from my mom who kept calling.. and calling.. and calling.. just to chat. Lol

It was hot and humid ( what did I expect in Chicago in July?) but a overall a good run.

Wonder Twin Powers..

Wonder Twin Powers! Form of.. An obsessed running techno Geek.

My running watch refuses to calibrate so I broke down and bought a Garmin and had planned to sell my Polar. Like most runners I am obsessed with my stats and keep track of everything.
But now instead of wearing just the Garmin, which I know is correct, I am wearing them both to have even more numbers and stats to obsess about.

They do not match up, which I knew would be the case, but it is still driving me mad. One says I have not gone as far but says I am faster. The other says I am slow running but super fast walking. I spent most of the run today looking like a spaz because I couldn't keep from looking at my watch.. My plethora of watches and all of the data they have to offer.

I fell off the curb once, almost tripped over a piece of trash in the road, and stumbled into a tree scraping my knee.

Chris refuses to run with me again until I pick a watch and am done with it all.

I'll miss running with him.

Race results

The race results are in for the Siena Francis House run..

For the 5k I was:
169 of 208 overall
82 of 116 women
5 of 6 of my age group.

Pretty sad stats but it was a good run and I was completely pain free.
I need to let go of the struggle of not getting a PR at each race and just enjoy the experience. That's so hard for a Type A like me but I am woking on it!

On a positive note about the stats.. I always start at the very back of the race since I would rather pass than be passed (helps my mental state lol) and there is an official photo of this. I am the 2nd to last starting next to a lady with a double wide stroller which puts me at about 207. Since I finished 169th that means I moved up 39 places! Not too shabby!
