I was entered to run in the Wisner Leprechaun 5 mile run but could not because of my foot. The Race Director was kind enough to send me the shirt anyway!

.

Official diagnosis - Possible stress fracture of the 5th Metatarsal. They can not tell for sure if it is an actual break until 2 weeks when the bone growth will show on the xray. He said I have all of the signs of the stress fracture so they are treating as if it is indeed broken. I will go back in 2 weeks for additional xrays. but until then i get to wear this glorious 6 pound boot/cast.

I wouldn't mind the boot/cast so much if I could find a way to still run with the dang thing.

Wednesday - 3/17/10

Training plan: Run 4 miles. Warm up and cool down.

Warm up/cool down - 1.3 miles
Running total - 4 miles @ 43:11
Grand total - 5.3 miles

Well.. There is good new and bad news with this run. I ran 4 miles in a new best time of 43:11 but probably broke my foot. It hurt while running, progressively got worse, and then at mile 3 it was flat out awful. But I did keep running. I knew that if I broke it I would not be able to run for awhile, I was really doing well on my time, and just didn't want to stop. I ran 1 more mile to reach the 4 miles in my training plan. The walk home was not fun at all.

Today has been a heck of a day.. I broke my foot and Addison lost her first tooth. Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Warm up/Cool down - .73
Running total - 4 miles @ 44:10
Grand total - 4.73

OUTSIDE! OUTSIDE! OUTSIDE!
I am so very happy to get to run outside after such a long winter and such mind numbing training on the treadmill. It was nice to hear the birds, see different sights, and just be outside. It was still pretty chilly but that was so much better than my basement.

Thursday - 3/11/10

Training plan: Run 3.1 miles. Cool down and warm up.

Warm up and cool down total - .42
Running total - 3.1
Grand total - 3.52

Ran 3.1 in 34 minutes. Not a great time but I am happy with it since I was in a hilly section. I am trying to not be as afraid of hills and run some every couple of runs. I dont like them and they do like me but I know it will help my overall training.

Sunday - 3/7/10

Run 5k.

Back home in Omaha and the weather was finally somewhat decent so I was able to run outside! It really is amazing at how different it is to run outside vs inside on the treadmill.

Ran 5k in 32:47. The time was not as good as my last 5k race but I was still happy with it. Due to traveling I had not run in 3 days, I was back out in my hilly neighborhood, and did not have enough water the day before, so I was not sure how I would do.

Stats from the run:
3.1 miles in 32:47
10:47 average per mile
.8 mile warm up
.7 mile warm up

4.6 total miles

Castaway Cay 5k race day!

Castaway Cay is Disneys private island where all of the Disney cruise ships stop. Each time they stop they have a 5k run for anyone on the ship. There were about 10 people in our race along with the Cast Member who acted as the race leader. We did not have racing numbers but they did have a timing clock and an official time keeper.

The race started where the ship was docked, went through the restaurants and shops, down the bike path, and down the old airport landing strip. The beginning of the run was wonderful. There was a breeze, it was cool, and we were the first ones on the island. Towards the end the people were all over the place and did not want to move over for the runners. It got a bit warm and the wind died down. But it was still a great day to run and I would take it any day!

For running the race we all received a Disney Cruise Line water bottle, a Magical Moments button, and a pretty cool Certificate.

Best of all I got a new PR of 31:31! I was not sure how I would do since I had not run outside in so long, was not use to the heat, and was running against experienced runners. Two of the runners had run in the Boston Marathon and 2 others had run other Marathons so I knew it was going to be fast and that I didn't have a chance. I did get a personal best but I also came in dead last! LOL

I did place in the top 10 though.. out of 10. ;)

Monday - 3/01/10

Walk for one hour.

Today we were on the Disney Cruise Ship the Wonder. I had grand plans of running around deck 4 where they have a jogging track. I could not wait to be outside and to run on a ship.

It started out great.. I had the whole deck to myself, we were in port at Nassau, Bahamas so the view was beautiful, the sun was out, and it was cool. Perfect for running! I had gone almost two miles when they came over the PA saying that it was time for the crew safety drill. Almost all of the 1,000 employees were required to put on their life jackets, report to their assigned stations, and pretend to get in a life raft... all on Deck 4. It became wall to wall people all around the deck and after th 2nd catcall I decided to call it quits.

I finished the mileage by running on the treadmill in the spa. The treadmills were in the very front of the ship and overlooked the water. It was beautiful. I tell ya, I would run on the treadmill every day if that was my view!

Total 3.3 miles.
